Kellyanne Conway, an individual few people heard of twelve months ago, and whose abilities as a political consultant are vastly overrated, responded to Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes speech from Sunday by accusing her of “inciting people’s worst instincts”.
Think about that for a second.
This comment comes from the person who helped steer a presidential campaign built on inciting fear, anxiety, vitriol, violence, and anger. She was, and is, an effective spokesperson for a demagogue because she is a demagogue herself.
Ms. Conway’s comments would have been comedic if they were spoken in primetime by Archie Bunker or Peter Griffin. But they weren’t. And, so, they aren’t.
This is not normal.
Welcome to January 11th, 2017.
