I’ve long thought that the children of Presidents should not be drawn into the political fray; in most cases, they are innocent bystanders who don’t deserve to be turned into collateral damage.
However, I draw the line when the children of presidents are (a) grown up, and have either (b) campaigned aggressively on their parent’s behalf, (c) assumed a role within their parent’s administration, or (d) both.
Enter Ivanka Trump.
On the evening that the President signed the Executive order that many Americans call anti-muslim and insensitive to the plight of refugees, Ms. Trump posed for this photo at a gala, which she then posted to social media:
What’s missing in this administration is not only empathy and compassion, but also some very basic self-awareness. The very night that people are being separated from their dreams of peace and prosperity, not to mention their families, is not the night to be celebrating in a $5,000 Carolina Herrera.
While this response on Twitter offered a modicum of justice, it was hardly enough.
In answer to the question, who wore it better? It was the beautiful young lady from Syria.
This is not normal.
It’s the 3rd of February, 2017. TGIF.
