The data from the Congressional Budget Office are in, and the CBO’s assessment of the new congressional healthcare bill is not positive.
The CBO’s nonpartisan analysis predicts it would leave 23 million more Americans uninsured, and it would require people with preexisting medical conditions to pay more for coverage. Many of these people will be forced to forego insurance altogether, placing their health at further risk.
The Republican plan would also cut hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid, which scores of disadvantaged Americans rely upon for health care.
What’s most troubling about this plan is that it puts an exclamation point on the lies told by the president and his team while he was campaigning. He promised to make America great again by meeting the needs of the vulnerable and those who felt left behind.
The reality is, the president is gutting the social safety net that these people — many of whom voted for him last November — rely upon for themselves, and for their families.
The bottom line: More people will suffer as a result of this plan. And more people will die.
This is not normal.
